Paid Surveys for Teens: What You Need to Know First

How old you must be to join a survey panel in the U.S., why PayPal requires 18 (or your state’s age of majority) to cash out, and which teen offers are scams.

The short answer: in the U.S. you can join a survey panel at 13, but to cash out through PayPal you need to be 18, or the age of majority in your state. Those are two separate rules from two separate companies, and it’s worth knowing both before you start.

Below we explain how old you have to be to sign up with Zona Encuestas, why getting paid is a different story, and which “for teens” offers to avoid. The details are from October 2026 and can change.

How old you have to be to sign up

At Zona Encuestas, sign-up and studies are run by Cint, a market research company, and each country’s panel sets its own minimum age. The sign-up form asks for your date of birth and won’t let you continue if you’re under your country’s minimum. In October 2026 it looked like this:

Minimum ageCountries (among others)
13United States, United Kingdom
14Canada, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Australia
16Germany, Ireland, Chile
17Puerto Rico
18Guatemala

Being accepted into the panel doesn’t mean you’ll get a lot of surveys: each study looks for a specific profile, and many want adults because they ask about purchases, jobs or services a teenager doesn’t buy. It’s normal for a minor to get fewer invitations.

Why you need to be 18 to cash out

At Zona Encuestas the money goes out through PayPal, to the email you signed up with. And PayPal doesn’t let minors open an account: its user agreement for the U.S. requires you to be at least 18, or the age of majority in your state of residence. If you live somewhere else, check PayPal’s agreement for your country before you sign up.

In practice: if you’re under 18, you can answer surveys, but you won’t be able to withdraw what you earn until you have a PayPal account in your own name. Better to know that up front than to find out with a balance sitting there.

Don’t enter a different birth date or someone else’s details. Panels check that your answers and your profile add up, and false information is one of the most common reasons accounts get suspended, balance included. We cover it in why survey panels suspend accounts.

What about Google’s surveys?

They’re not a way around it either: Google Opinion Rewards requires you to be over 18, according to Google’s own help page. On Android it also pays in Google Play credit, not cash. We explain it in what Google’s surveys actually pay.

If you’re under 18: what makes sense

  1. Talk to your parents before you sign up. You’ll be giving your email and profile details, and getting paid will depend on a PayPal account. It’s a decision to make as a family.
  2. Read what happens to your data. Your answers go to the client grouped and without your name, and your email is only used for invitations and account notices. We go into detail in what personal data paid surveys ask for.
  3. Don’t expect an income. A survey pays cents or a few dollars, and a minor gets fewer of them. We cover it with figures published by other panels in how much you can really earn with paid surveys.

The “for teens” offers that are scams

When you search for surveys for teenagers, it’s easy to land on pages that promise Robux, game credit or gift cards for answering a few questions. Many pay nothing: what they want is for you to install apps, hand over your phone number or use your parents’ card details. Be suspicious if:

  • they ask you to pay something, or enter card details, to “unlock” the prize;
  • they ask for your password to a game, a social network or your email;
  • the conversation moves to WhatsApp, Telegram or Discord with someone who’s rushing you.

A legitimate survey panel doesn’t charge you to take part or ask for passwords to other accounts. If any of this happens to you, tell an adult and read how to spot work-from-home scams.

The bottom line

Many panels accept minors: at Zona Encuestas, from age 13 in the U.S., 14 in Canada, Mexico or Spain, and 16 in Germany or Chile. But payment goes through PayPal, and PayPal requires you to be 18 (or the age of majority in your state), so until then you won’t be able to withdraw what you earn. If you’re under 18, talk it over at home, don’t lie about your age, and be wary of any prize offer that asks you to pay or hand over passwords.
